Anaerobic co-digestion of hatchery waste and wastewater to produce energy and biofertilizer - Batch phase AGRIAMBI
Matter,Juliana M.; Costa,Mônica S. S. de M.; Costa,Luiz A. de M.; Pereira,Dercio C.; Varennes,Amarílis de; Tessaro,Dinéia.
ABSTRACT Aiming to evaluate different wastewaters in the anaerobic co-digestion (ACoD) of hatchery wastes, a batch test was conducted in bench horizontal digesters. At the end of the process, the potential production of biogas and methane was calculated as well as the chemical composition (macro- and micronutrients) of the effluent and the concentrations of methane and carbon dioxide gas at 60 days. The monitoring of the process included observations of the reduction of the organic carbon, chemical oxygen demand, and total (TS) and volatile solids (VS), as well as the variation of pH and electrical conductivity (EC). The results showed that the mixing between the hatchery fresh waste and swine wastewater (T4) and among fresh hatchery waste, water from the...

Determination of kinetic parameters of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor (uasb), treating swine wastewater Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Matangue,Mario Tauzene Afonso; Campos,Claudio Milton Montenegro.
This research aimed to estimate the kinetic parameters of a UASB reactor treating swine wastewater from farming. The system consisted of: a degritter with a triangular-notch weir in order to measure the flow; a static sieve; an acidification/equalization tank (AET); ABR and UASB reactors; a settling tank; two infiltration ponds and a greenhouse for fertirrigation. The hydraulic retention times (HRT) adopted for the UASB reactor, were: 8.0; 9.6; 8.4; 6.0 and 4.8 hours. The operational temperature was 23.4º C±1.5º C. The analyzed physical-chemical parameters were temperature COD (total and filtered), BOD (total and filtered), total volatile solids (affluent, effluent and of the reactor's profile sludge), flow rate and nutrients (N and P). The kinetic...

Effect of free ammonia nitrogen on the methanogenic activity of swine wastewater Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Belmonte,Marisol; Hsieh,Chia-Fang; Figueroa,Cindy; Campos,José Luis; Vidal,Gladys.
Swine wastewater is characterized by high organic matter content, solids, nitrogen (expressed as total ammonia and protein) and heavy metals. This work determines the methanogenic toxicity effect of free ammonia contained in swine wastewater comparing raw swine wastewater (RW) and the liquid fraction of swine wastewater (TW). The values of IC50 (50% of inhibition) obtained for methanogenic bacteria ranged between 56 and 84% for RW, meanwhile IC50 for TW was ranged between 84 and 94%. Such inhibitory effects can be related to the free ammonia nitrogen concentration (> 40 mg NH3-N/L) contained in swine wastewater.

Establishment of anammox process in sludge samples collected from swine wastewater treatment system REA
Casagrande,Caroline G; Kunz,Airton; Soares,Hugo M; Prá,Marina C. de; Schierholt Neto,Guilherme F.
The high load of nitrogen present in swine wastewater is one of the biggest management challenges of the activity. The Anammox process emerges as a good alternative for biological removal of nitrogen. This study aims to acclimate sludge collected from swine effluent treatment systems to establish the Anammox process. Two sludge samples were collected at Embrapa Swine and Poultry, Concordia - SC, Brazil, one from the bottom of an inactive anaerobic pond (inoculum A) and another from an aeration tank (inoculum B). Both were acclimated until the depletion of NO3-N, being subsequently inoculated in two reactors (Reactor A - Inoculum A and Reactor B - Inoculum B). The Reactor A showed activity after 110 days of operation, while the Reactor B needed 170 days....

SOIL MESO- AND MACROFAUNA IN TWO SOYBEAN CROPS AFTER SWINE WASTEWATER APPLICATION REA
Maciel,Ana P. C.; Sampaio,Silvio C.; Remor,Marcelo B.; Rosa,Danielle M.; Reis,Ralpho R. Dos.
ABSTRACT Hog raising generates a large amount of residues that is commonly discarded into the soil as fertilizer even with environmental risks. In this context, the aim of this study was to assess the application effects of different doses of swine wastewater (SW) associated with mineral fertilization on the abundance and diversity of organisms of soil meso- and macrofauna in two soybean crops. Treatments consisted of four doses (0, 100, 200, and 300 m3 ha−1) of SW with or without mineral fertilization in two soybean crop, totaling 24 experimental units. Soil meso- and macrofauna were sampled using pitfall traps installed at each plot. Samples were sorted and the organisms were separated and identified. The highest abundances were found between groups of...
